Homeopathy:

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a complete medical art and science based upon the principle of stimulating the innate ability of the body to heal itself.

The principles of homeopathy have been known since the time of Hippocrates (460-377 B.C.), a Greek physician known as the Father of Medicine. However, it was not until the late eighteenth century when a German physician, Samuel Christian Fredrich Hahnemann, M.D. (1755-1843) rediscovered homeopathy that its use as healing art became systematized.

The homoeopathic method of treating disease is based on the Law of Similars. The word 'homoeopathy' is derived from the Greek 'homoios' meaning similar and 'pathos' meaning 'suffering' - i.e.: similar suffering. The Law of Similars simply means that a substance which creates symptoms in a healthy person will cure a sick person with similar symptoms.

The symptoms that people suffer are mere warning signals from the body indicating that something is out of balance. Conventional medicine deals with the end effects of the causations rather than treating the causation by using medicines like anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, anti-histamine, anti-depressant. Homeopathy addresses the routing cause of these disturbances & heals from within.

Is Homeopathy safe?  Does it have any side effects?

Homeopathic drugs have no known side effects when correctly prescribed and are safe even for babies, children and pregnant women. Children respond particularly well because their vital energies are often stronger than those of adults.

The diluted substances used in homeopathy will not cause any toxic or allergic problems. However, in some cases during the course of treatment, symptoms may be aggravated or new symptoms may appear. These are usually transient and may require some adjustment in the medicines taken.

How are the homeopathic remedies made?

The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the manufacture and sale of homeopathic medicines .

Homeopathic remedies are specially prepared from natural substances, mostly plants and minerals. Tiny amounts of these active ingredients are highly diluted with alcohol and water until the desirable strength of medication is reached. As the medicinal substances used in homeopathic remedies are extremely dilute, there are no toxic or side effects.

Why is Homeopathy unique?

Treating the Whole Person rather than Symptoms alone is what makes Homeopathy unique.

Treatment is very individualized and addresses the person as a whole; the mental, emotional and physical aspects of a human being. As each person is truly unique, the same remedy, diet, or even the same general advice will not necessarily help everyone with the same ailment.

Choosing the correct remedy is a highly systematized process based on information received about the patient. This includes temperament, heredity, emotional & physical responses to their environment.

Each person experiences symptoms in their own unique way. This picture of the “Totality of symptoms” is then matched with a specific remedy from the homeopathic materia medica. As a result, a state of balance & wellbeing is experienced in all the levels of the body.
